A team of researchers in a recent study found that the entire Roman Empire, which has been known for its advanced sanitation, was infested with parasites. The team found that the empire was infested with higher number of human parasites.

The study's author Piers Mitchell, a lecturer of biological anthropology at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, said, “I was very surprised to find that compared with the Bronze Age and Iron Age, there was no drop in the kind of parasites that are spread by poor sanitation during the Roman period”.

Mitchell told Live Science that despite having extraordinary baths and toilets people in Roman times had bad health due to infestation by parasites.

Researchers through a recent study found that women are three times as likely to be involved in same-sex intimacy as men. The research that sheds light on sexuality of the US adults under the age of 45 showed that almost 7% of the population said that they are gay or bisexual as compared to 4% of men.

Researchers noted that the number of people calling them bisexual have dramatically increased in some recent years. It has been found that women are more flexible in their sexual preferences as compared to men.

The findings of the study conducted by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics are based on surveys from 2011 to 2013. The data provides researchers with an up-to-date look at how the change is playing out in younger people.

The most recent annual report released by the American Cancer Society on Thursday revealed that cancer has become the leading cause of death in 22 states in the year 2014.

Though overall heart diseases remain the primary cause of death in the US, it is reducing at a very rapid rate. Death rates for both the causes have been declining since 25 years, but deaths rate due to heart diseases has been reducing at a faster rate. Highest deaths due to cancer are also specific to certain races like Hispanics and Asians and also to the age group of 40-79 years.

A reduction of 23% has been noted in the cancer death rate since 1991, which means that over 1.7 million lives got saved through 2012. During the same period, mortality rate for heart diseases was down by 46%.

An initial study by a group of researchers has revealed a new imaging technology for cancer, which is likely to enable surgeons to detect all the affected cells in a single attempt that will reduce the requirement for a follow-up surgery.

The senior author of the study, Dr. David Kirsch, explained that the surgeon’s aim is to detect and remove the tumor after a patient is diagnosed with cancer.

Kirsch, who is also a professor in the department of pharmacology and cancer biology, and the department of radiation oncology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, added that despite the surgeon’s best attempts, at times certain minute cancer cells remain behind.

The Wildlife Conservation Society’s New York Aquarium scientists have reported that they have found a sand tiger shark nursery just off the shore of Long Island’s Great South Bay. Nursery for tiger sharks is an area where juvenile sand tiger sharks aggregate.

Basically, sand tiger sharks belong to the South around the Carolinas, but during their maturing years they make a move to north to nursery sites, which is why they have been found in New York. In terms of composition, sand tiger sharks have ferocious teeth and an imposing appearance, but are unexpectedly quiet.

Adult sharks can become more than 10 feet long where as size of juvenile sharks range from 9 inches to 4 feet.
