A latest study authored by Vanderbilt University researchers has disclosed that heart disease is the most common non-cancer death cause in prostate cancer survivors.

Knowing this, the cardio-oncology program of the university has decided to shift its focus on toning down the heart disease risk factors in patients, mainly the ones receiving the prostate cancer treatment known as androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).

Dr. Eric Shinohara, a radiation oncologist and a medical director at the university said that though ADT therapy is quite beneficial for a lot of patients with prostate cancer, it could also raise the vulnerability of developing diabetes or suffering a heart attack or stroke.

The increasing level of education now offers protection against developing dementia. If not fully eliminating the neural disease, it can definitely help in delaying the same. The disease, associated with cardiovascular health, has less impact on people enjoying better lifestyle and physical health.

The new study, looking for risk trend in dementia, reported highest decline in vascular dementia caused by cardiovascular problems. Another common form of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease, cases of which are falling too.

The brain preservation foundation awarded the researchers with Small Mammal Brain Preservation Prize for successfully preserving a rabbit’s brain for a long time without damaging the neural circuits. The research by 21st Century Medicine (21CM) was published in Cryobiology.

The people near Birch Creek, Michigan, heard a boom in 2010 and felt the earth rock. On waking up the next morning they discovered a big crack in the ground. At that time nobody knew what caused it but now a group of researchers believe they know.

The thing that happened on the night of October 4th, 2010 left a big crack in the ground in the Upper Michigan Peninsula. It wasn’t an earthquake. The ground did move, but created the equivalent of a 1.0 magnitude earthquake. In the region there aren’t any geological faults.

The ground got split due to some other geological event, and the Michigan Technology University researchers now think that it was an event known as a ‘pop-up’.
