Direct detection of Albert Einstein’s gravitation waves not only proves that the genius scientist was right a century ago, but also marks the dawn of a new subfield of astronomy. The discovery has provided evidence that black holes can collide with each other to form a singer, bigger hole.

When the Large Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) announced the direct detection of the ripples through space-time, entire astrophysicist community was stunned. They all believe that such a discovery could be extremely significant for everyone linked to science. Many said that gravitational waves could help solve long-standing black hole mystery.

As we know that space objects like asteroids could pose threat to earth, astronomers keep a close eye at these space rocks. About two years ago, astronomers found that some asteroids were missing from the observable universe.

Now, in a new study published in journal Nature, scientists have predicted that the missing asteroids must have disintegrated. There are many space rocks orbiting in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. They continue to roam and stay visible when they are around planets, but when they come close the sun, they disappear. The new study has suggested that the missing asteroids must have destroyed when they appeared close to the sun.

The present day humans and Neanderthals are believed to have interbred much earlier than though during the prehistoric era, the period of interbreeding dating as far back as around 100,000 years ago, scientists have claimed in a new study published Wednesday in the journal Nature.

Earlier, scientists had estimated that the interbreeding started around 50,000 to 60,000 years ago. But an international research team has established “strong evidence” that Neanderthals and modern humans started mating much earlier than that.

A new research, conducted at the University of Crete in Greece has revealed that babies are at a higher risk of becoming obese if their mothers had consumed fish three or more times in a week. A meta-analysis of 15 studies was carried out by the researchers, involving a total of 26,184 pregnant women and their children from 11 countries across the United States and Europe. The data on the babies born from 1996 to 2011 was tracked by the researchers.

A drug prescribed for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is being misused by increasing number of college students, according to a new study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. The drug is prescribed to help people with ADHD to focus.

Dr. Ramin Mojtabai, a professor of mental health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, with his team found that college students are using Adderall to improve their cognitive functions in order to perform well in academics. The drug helps them stay up all night to cram from books.
