Excessive Recommendations for Pregnant Women
A pregnant woman faces recommendations and suggestions from everyone, including doctors, relatives, family members and the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The general advises involve complete restriction from smoking, illegal drugs and uncooked or undercooked animal products, along with fish and fish products that have high level of mercury. In addition, several medicines including Ibuprofen are banned for pregnant women.
The CDC has given a new recommendation this week for pregnant women not consuming alcohol if they are sexually active and are not using birth control pills. The intake of alcohol can pose severe threat to the expected child. The suggestions by the doctors are usually given on the basis of proven research and studies. However, complications arise when doctors don’t agree with certain restrictions. For example, a few obstetricians believe that little amount of alcohol is not harmful during later stages in pregnancy.
Several doctors recommend no caffeine during pregnancy, while a recent research revealed that caffeine is not that harmful as it was thought earlier. In addition, some doctors fear miscarriage because of the consumption of soft cheeses, deli meats and other eatables that can possibly have listeria. Everything in a pregnant woman’s life is suspicious. Hair coloring and use of some cosmetic products as well as soaps and shampoos are also restricted due to the existence of some doubtful elements.
Miscarriage has also been associated with the intake of oral antifungal medication. Consuming non-organic food, a BPA component present in plastics, over eating of organic potatoes and also acetaminophen medication can cause complications. Another high risk factor is getting pregnant after 35 years of age. The number of listed complications is unending. However, while 10-25% pregnancies end in miscarriage, and normally the reason is unknown. Chromosomal abnormality, which is not associated with eating habits or any other precaution, is the primary reason for miscarriage in the first trimester. So, pregnant women are advised to relax.
