Shares of Reliance Communications (RCom), part of Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, gained nearly two per cent during the early trade on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today, following the acquirement of a cable TV service provider.

RCom got hold of India's biggest cable TV service provider, Digicable, in an all-stock deal on July 01.

Scrips of RCom zoomed 1.92% to a high of Rs 196 on BSE, whereas on National Stock Exchange, it surged 0.91% to Rs 194.

The company's directors sanctioned the plan for the acquisition of Digicable without revealing the value of the deal.

Bhilai Steel Plant, the highest profitable division of the country's biggest steel manufacturer in the public sector, Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), has registered the record best first quarter (April-June) output.

In a declaration, BSP stated, "The plant recorded the best ever hot metal production of 1.39 million tonne (MT) in first quarter in fiscal year 2010-11 as against previous best of 1.27 MT in 2009-10."

The facility is situated in Bhilai, some 30 km west of Chhattisgarh capital Raipur.

Australian pop singer and actress Kylie Minogue has bagged a role in a Hollywood flick after almost a decade. The film titled Jack and Diane is believed to be a lesbian werewolf thriller, in which Kylie will play the role of a tattoo-clad rock star.

Kylie will share screen space with the English actress Juno Temple, Elvis Presley's granddaughter Riley Keough and Jena Malone.

Minogue is reportedly in New York now to shoot for the movie.

The film deals with the story of two New York City teen girls and is slated to release by the coming year.

British film and TV actor Dev Patel, who shot to fame after playing the role of Jamal Malik in Danny Boyle's megahit film Slumdog Millionaire, has cleared the air for his fans, by declaring that he is not engaged to his longtime girlfriend Freida Pinto.

Dev had to announce the fact as his mother got disappointed after reading news about his engagement to Pinto.

Dev had to clarify to his mom that the reports were false.

The actor said, "I had to say that nothing has happened, everything is fine and I am here just for shooting a movie."

In a new poll of leading presidential scholars, Barack Obama has been named as the 15th best US president, just below Bill Clinton but ahead of Ronald Reagan.

The Siena College poll, which reviewed 238 presidential scholars at US colleges and universities, ranked Obama two places below Clinton, who was 13th best, and three better than Reagan, who is ranked as the 18th best.

Franklin D. Roosevelt again garnered the top spot, as he has every time since the poll was first conducted in the year 1982.

Comics' publishers, once lamenting dropping sales as youth turn to the web and other media for amusement, are now smiling all the way to the bank after offering up their works on handsets to magnetize the generation on the move.

According to industry estimations, two major comics publishers including Amar Chitra Katha and Raj Comics are between them making Rs 500,000 to Rs 700,000 on a monthly basis from m-comics and with a third player, Diamond Comics, set to join the fray, the figure can only climb higher.
