Miandad says PCB to strengthen domestic cricket
Lahore, Dec. 5 : Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Director-General Javed Miandad has said that he is determined and motivated enough to get the country’s first class cricketing infrastructure back on its feet.
“My utmost effort will be to revive domestic cricket that has been destroyed in the past seven years due to unwise steps taken by the previous regimes of the PCB,” he told reporters at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Thursday.
“We had a glittering past in domestic cricket from 1983-97 after which there was a decline as the previous regimes of the PCB started experimenting to ruin domestic cricket and the departments’ interest gradually faded away,” The News quoted him, as saying.
He said he did not agree with former Pakistan captain Imran Khan that involvement of departments was the main factor for the decline of overall cricket in Pakistan.
“What Imran says is his own opinion and I have my own ideas. It is not necessary that I should agree with him,” he said.
Miandad said he would also act as coach and if needed he would go to the streets of Pakistan and schools to give tips to the youth to take up cricket as a sport. (ANI)
