Princess Diana was ‘deeply and blissfully’ in love with Dodi: Stepmother
London, Dec 13: Princess Diana was "deeply and blissfully" in love with Dodi Al Fayed, the inquest into their deaths has heard.
Speaking publicly about the couple for the first time, Diana’s stepmother Raine, Countess Spencer, said she was convinced that the pair's relationship was much "deeper" and "closer" than just a "summer romance".
She told the London hearing that Diana had called her a number of times after holidaying with Dodi and explained how she had not been so happy for years.
"She was effusive, very excited by him. Incredibly happy. She said she had not been so happy for years. She was really blissful, ” The Sun quoted her, as saying.
"That was the moment when I really felt that she and Dodi would get engaged and then married, ” she added.
But Lady Spencer denied rumours that her stepdaughter would have allowed herself to get pregnant before marriage.
“Diana was brought up in a quite old-fashioned way. I don’t personally believe she would have considered it. It would have been out of the question for her, ” she said.
Lady Spencer also revealed that the Princess had become "obsessed" with accidents and was sure that someone was after her life.
She added that her stepdaughter seeking help from several "soothsayers and fortune tellers" to put her mind at rest.
"I can say she was quite obsessed by the idea of accidents in general, " she said.
The Countess ended with a statement begging the jury to "solve the mystery". (ANI)
