Pak suspends NATO supplies due to security reasons on Pak-Afghan highway

Lahore, Nov 16 : Political authorities reportedly suspended supplies to NATO forces in Afghanistan via Torkham Border on Saturday, due to security concerns on the Pak-Afghan Highway.

According to a private TV channel report, hundreds of trucks and containers had been stopped in Peshawar after the suspension of the supply.

The supplies had been suspended following incidents of looting of trucks and containers carrying oil and other supplies for the NATO forces battling Taliban in Afghanistan, the Daily Times quoted Khyber Agency Political Agent Tariq Hayat as saying.

He said that the NWFP additional secretary had sent a proposal to the federal government on November 11 asking for the suspension of the supplies because of the volatile security situation on the restive Pak-Afghan border.

“But, some transporters are transporting supplies on their own responsibility,” the political agent told the TV channel.

Quoting local authorities, the TV report said that the supplies would not be resumed until effective security measures were put in place. (ANI)
