PML-Q president will be elected in May: Shujaat
Islamabad, Nov 15 : President of PML-Q Chaudhry Shujaat Husain has said that the election for top party slot would be held in May or June next and any regular member or worker of the party has the right to participate in it.
Talking to a TV channel on Friday, Chaudhry Shujaat said he had presented the amendment in the party’s constitution for bar on more than two terms on top party position, but the amendment does not bar relatives of the sitting party president from taking part in the election.
He said all politicians promoted their relatives in politics and it would not be something new if his cousin was a candidate for PML-Q president, The News reported.
Chaudhry Shujaat said those willing a change in the party leadership should secure majority support from the 2,000-2,500 voters of the party majority.
Replying to a question, Chaudhry Shujaat said Hamid Nasir Chattha visits former president Musharraf frequently and tells him that people miss him. But he opined that Musharraf would not be trapped.
He confirmed indirect contacts between PML-N and his party, but asserted that the PML-Q would never loose its identity, as it is the third largest parliamentary party and does not need merger with any other party.
However, if national interest so required there could be direct contact with Sharif brothers, but it would not be done for the sake of power.
Chaudhry Shujaat said the doors of the party are open for members of the forward block. He said central working committee of the party is the only forum that takes policy decisions and no individual can do it. (ANI)
