Tokyo  - The Tokyo market extended its recent losses Friday after Toyota Motor Corp announced a sharp cut in it earnings forecast for the current fiscal year.

The Nikkei 225 Stock Average lost 316.14 points, or 3.55 per cent, to close at 8,583.

The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also down 30.3 points, or 3.33 per cent, to 879.

For the week, Nikkei was up 0.07 per cent, and Topix also rose 1.35 per cent.

Toyota on Thursday lowered its operating income projection to 600 billion yen (6 billion dollars) for the year that ends March 31, down 73.6 per cent from the previous year.

On currency markets at midday (0300 GMT), the dollar was quoted at 96.98-97.02 yen, down from Thursday's 5 pm quote of 97.90-93 yen.

The euro was quoted at 1.2715-20 dollars, down from Thursday's 5 pm quote of 1.2860-63 dollars, and at 123.42-47 yen, down from 125.92-96 yen. (dpa)
