Wellington - A new bride died in a car crash as she was being driven home from her wedding reception in Auckland, police said Friday.

The 26-year-old suffered fatal head injuries when the car hit a traffic island Thursday night in the suburb of Mount Wellington.

A police spokeswoman said that the new husband of the woman, whose name was not immediately released, was not among the three others in the car who survived.

News reports said the car was believed to have been speeding. (dpa)
