Manipuris protest against bomb blast in Imphal

Manipur, ImphalImphal, Nov 4 : The recent bomb blast in Manipur’s capital Imphal, has broken all barriers of patience of the people of the state. They have condemned militancy and asked the government to act tough against such elements.

People from all walks of life and from all communities recently held a massive rally to protest against the Imphal blast that claimed over 15 lives.

The anger and frustration was palpable on the faces of the protestors. Everybody said bombs are not the solution in society.

Manipuris termed bomb blasts as a disturbing development. Tona and Jitendra both said: "Don''t do this in public places. If you want to blast a bomb, do it in a lonely place. We are living here happily, please don’t disturb our peaceful life.”

Manipur is now the most violent state in the North eastern region. Compared to 209 fatalities in the neighbouring Assam, which saw the highest numbers killed in 2007, Manipur has recorded 314 fatalities. Of these, 65 per cent were militants killed.

Despite the action against militancy some of the groups still keep on creating havoc in collusion with outside group. According to a recent report by the Delhi based Institute for Conflict Management a local militant group has inked a pact with the Naxals to spread terror in the state.

People like Professor L. P. Singh of Manipur University believe that it is time for the people of Manipur to raise their voices against the atrocities of the militants. (ANI)
