Taare Zameen Par (TZP): official entry of India in Oscars
Taare Zameen Par (TZP) has added one more honor to its long list of awards.It was a huge commercial success. The movie was applauded by films critics. The film has been selected by The Film Federation of India (FFI) to represent India at the 81st Annual Academy awards in the foreign film category. There were eight other films, Jodhaa Akbar, A Wednesday, Mumbai Meri Jaan, Rock On, Black & White, 2 Marathi films and one in Telugu in the nomination race
TZP was the directorial debut of Aamir Khan. The movie tells the story of a 9 year old dyslexic child played by Darsheel Safary.. The film was produced by Khan in association with PVR Pictures. The movie was applauded for its touching theme as well as great performance by all actors.
Khan expressed his happiness on the occasion. He said: “I’m really happy that TZP been selected to represent India at an international forum like the Oscars. It is a film that is extremely close to my heart.”
He added: “It’s a film that first sensitized me as a parent and as a person and then went on to have the same effect on all the audiences in India and across the globe. I hope that it has an equally strong impact on the members of the academy as well.”
Producer and director Suneel Darshan was the chairperson of this year’s committee for the Oscars nomination. Other jury members were Bijon Das Gupta, Aruna Raje, Ravi Kotharakara, H M Ramachandran, Sudarshan Rao, Mahesh Kothare, Jagdish Sharma, B R Ishara and Manoj Chaturvedi.
