Thai foreign minister on official visit to Myanmar
Bangkok - Thai Foreign Minister Tej Bunnag left for an official three-day visit to Myanmar Saturday with plans to meet with Prime Minister General Thein Sein, government officials said.
Tej, who was appointed Thailand's foreign minister on July 27, will also meet with his counterpart Nyam Win and discuss preparations for the celebration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the government-run Thai News Agency said.
Also on his itinerary is following up Thai aid to Myanmar after Cyclone Nargis devastated the Irrawaddy Delta region and parts of Yangon last May 2 and 3.
Drug trafficking, energy, and illegal Myanmar workers in Thailand will also be discussed. Tej is also expected to attend a reception at the Thai embassy in the former capital Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon. (dpa)
