Nawaz has no objection if Musharraf decides to leave Pak
Washington, Aug 22: PML-N leader and former Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif has said that he would not mind if former president Pervez Musharraf, who toppled his government in a military coup on Oct 12, 1999, left Pakistan to live in-exile in some other country.
“If he wants to go, I won’t stand in his way. He might want to take a break,” the Daily Times quoted Nawaz as saying in an interview with the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
It may be recalled that after toppling his government, Musharraf had also allowed exile to Nawaz Sharif in 2000, after keeping him under detention for at least six months.
Nawaz also said that if his party decides to sit in the Opposition after moving out of the PPP-led federal government over the issue of reinstatement of deposed judges, he would not work towards destabilizing the government.
“We will not try to bring the government down. But, of course we then have no choice but to sit in the opposition. I would very much like to see this coalition stay in tact. I would be the last person who wants to see it disintegrating,” he added.
He said Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had earlier assured him that the sacked judges would be reinstated within 24 hours of Musharraf’s impeachment. (ANI)
