14 killed when bus falls into gorge in northern India
New Delhi - At least 14 people were killed and nine injured Friday when a bus fell into a gorge in India's northern state of Uttarakhand, a news report said.
Police said the bus, which was carrying 23 passengers, fell off a mountain road and plunged into a 90-metre near Pauri town, 100 kilometres east of the state capital, Dehradun, the PTI news agency reported.
Another similar accident happened last week in the state when 13 people were killed in the Nainital district.
Road accidents are common in India, and more than 250 people die in scores of such crashes every day. According to International Road Federation data for 2005, 94,985 people died in road accidents that year in India. (dpa)
