Tokyo  - Tokyo stocks dove more than 2 per cent Thursday on Wall Street's slump overnight.

The Nikkei 225 Stock Average declined 293.42 points, or 2.03 per cent, to 14,159.4.

The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also down 30.22 points, or 2.14 per cent, at 1,379.42.

The Dow Jones industrial average briefly slipped below the psychologically important 12,000 level, renewing the US credit concerns.

On currency markets at 9 am (0000 GMT), the dollar was quoted at 107.82-85 yen, down from Wednesday's 5 pm quote of 108.17-20 yen.

The euro was quoted at 1.5546-51 dollars, up from Wednesday's 5 pm quote of 1.5522-25 dollars, and at 167.60-65 yen, down from 167.93-97 yen. (dpa)
