Tibetans demonstrate against Olympic torch relay in Lhasa
Dharamsala, June 17: Tibetans today held demonstrations in Dharamsala to protest against Olympic torch relay in Lhasa.
The protest organised by the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC) and Regional Tibetan Women Association (RTWA) saw scores of Tibetans raising slogans and enacting scenes of alleged Chinese atrocities on their fellow citizens in Tibet.
Some protesters dressed in the Chinese military uniform, played the role of tyrants to depict the atrocities being committed on the Tibetan people.
They also carried posters urging the Chinese authorities to stop atrocities against Tibetans.
Phungchok, a member of RTYC said that Tibetans believe that the basic principle of Olympics is promotion of human values, brotherhood and peace but China has violated them.
The protesters said that they were not sure about the exact date of relay of the Olympic torch in Lhasa, which was not justified amidst gross violation of human rights in Tibet.
Sonam, another member of the RTYC said that the Chinese had changed the date but somehow the torch is going to Tibet. Tibetans completely deny and condemn the relay because of killing of the people since March this year.
Tibetans have been staging series of protests in the year of Beijing Olympics in an attempt to draw international attention towards their cause.
Tibetan Diaspora all over the world are seeking an end to Chinese rule in Tibet and have staged a wave of protests across the world especially at Dharamsala, home of the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama and also the seat of Tibetan government-in-exile. (ANI)
