Coldplay Concert in Mumbai Tickets Sold Out, BookMyShow Crashes; Fans Complain About Waiting List in Millions
British rock band Coldplay has once again proven its colossal fanbase in India, with tickets for their Mumbai concerts selling out in minutes. BookMyShow, the official ticketing partner, faced severe backlash after its platform crashed moments after the booking window opened, leaving millions stranded in virtual queues.
Coldplay announced their show in Mumbai in January 2025 and shared on their social media account about Infinity Tickets that fans could buy on popular ticket booking website BookMyShow. Coldplay will have two concerts in Mumbai, on January 18 and January 19, 2025.
Infinity tickets for Coldplay's Music Of The Spheres World Tour cost much lower for Indian fans at Rs 2000 (around $25). But, fans are now angry about the long waitlist and most probably, the tickets will be sold at much higher price in the grey market.
With Coldplay’s return to India after nearly a decade, the frenzy has reached unprecedented levels. Despite adding an extra concert date, fans are grappling with high demand and limited ticket availability. Meanwhile, BookMyShow has issued warnings about counterfeit ticket scams, urging fans to stay vigilant.
Coldplay's Ticketing Chaos Leaves Fans Frustrated
On Sunday, BookMyShow and Coldplay opened the booking window for the much-anticipated Mumbai concerts, but what was meant to be a moment of excitement quickly turned into a digital disaster. Fans hoping to secure their spots were met with disappointment as the platform crashed within minutes. Even after recovering, tickets were swiftly sold out, with the waitlist ballooning to over 1.1 million, reflecting the extraordinary demand.
Infinity Tickets: The Golden Opportunity with a Catch
Coldplay had previously announced the sale of Infinity Tickets, a limited release aimed at offering fans a more affordable way to experience their Music Of The Spheres World Tour. Priced at €20 (approximately INR 2,000) each, these tickets are sold only in pairs and allow attendees access to various seating locations, from premium floor spots to upper levels, with exact placements revealed only on the day of the concert. Despite these concessions, fans’ frustrations were not assuaged, as many still struggled to purchase tickets due to the platform's technical glitches.
Additional Concert Date and Ticket Scams Alert
In response to the overwhelming demand, Coldplay added a third concert date on January 21, 2025, but securing tickets to this show proved equally challenging for fans. BookMyShow took to social media platform X, issuing a cautionary note against unauthorized ticket sellers. The post emphasized the risks of buying from unofficial sources, warning fans to protect themselves from falling prey to scams.
Coldplay’s Grand Return to India
Coldplay's return to India is part of their Music Of The Spheres World Tour, marking nearly nine years since their last visit. The concert promises a spectacular production with a setlist featuring hits from their latest album, "Music Of The Spheres," new singles from the upcoming "Moon Music," and timeless classics. Fans can expect a sensory extravaganza with lasers, fireworks, and the band's signature LED wristbands enhancing the concert experience.
