Future Chevrolet Bolt will be exclusively EUV model: General Motors

In a strategic move responding to the increasing demand for electric vehicles (EVs), American automaker General Motors (GM) has disclosed plans to introduce a revamped Chevrolet Bolt exclusively in its larger EUV variant in 2025. In spite of achieving record-breaking sales, the Chevrolet Bolt faces the prospect of termination. However, GM intends to cater to the soaring interest in compact EVs by offering an extensively enhanced Chevrolet Bolt model with enhanced technology and features within next two years. Notably, the automobile brand confirmed that only the larger Bolt EUV variant will be produced and sold as part of its electric lineup, and it will be launched sometime in 2025.

The automaker underscored consumers’ overwhelming fondness for the crossover model over the smaller Bolt EV model, and attributed its decision to the exceptional reception garnered by the Bolt EUV. A spokesperson for the automaker expressed anticipation for the planned enhanced Chevrolet Bolt EUV, emphasizing that it would be based on the existing highly-successful formula that propelled its present acclaim.

Speaking on the topic, the spokesperson said, “We are glad to see the enthusiasm surrounding the upcoming Chevrolet Bolt. We will share details as we get closer to its launch date. We’re excited, as the new Bolt will build on the formula that has made it the success it is today.”

The sales trajectory also strongly favors the crossover model, with available data suggesting a considerable preference for the Bolt EUV over the Bolt EV. The sales of the Bolt EUV and Bolt EV has been found at a ratio of approx. two-to-one.

As per stats shared by the Chevrolet brand, the company’s combined sales for both models soared to 49,494 units between January to September period of this year, marking an impressive jump of 125 per cent from the same period of 2022. Amid occasional production challenges for the new Ultium platform-based EVs like the Cadillac Lyriq, Silverado EV, and the Hummer EV, the Bolt twins emerged as automaker’s best-selling battery-powered vehicle.

While age-related limitations persist for the Chevrolet Bolt, the allure of substantial discounts prompted by the recent EV tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) significantly attracted buyers, enabling many consumers to acquire the battery-powered models within the $20,000 range. This compelling pricing, coupled with respectable driving range of up to 259 miles, significantly strengthened the Bolt's appeal.
