A Woman Dies of Heart Disease Every 80 Seconds
In the US, one woman loses life because of heart problem every 80 seconds even as 75% of these cases can be avoided. Meanwhile, a big chuck of women does not even take into consideration that heart issues are such a great danger to their lives. At present, the figures reveal that around 44 million women in the US face some kind of heart issues, but not even one-third of them are aware of the symptoms associated with heart attack.
With the aim of creating consciousness about the heart problems in women and taking measures to prevent avoidable cardiac deaths, February has been declared as the month for Red For Women. According to a new scientific statement issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), the reasons and signs of heart attacks in women are often different in comparison to men. In addition, the AHA revealed that during the first year any occurrence of heart problem, women are likely to face increased complication level and increased death rate as compared to men.
There are several reasons for more women than men dying due to heart problems. Primary role is played by the norms and pressures prevailing in the society. The several factors that contribute to the stress in the life of women are being caregivers of family, prioritizing needs of spouses, kids and others, as well as higher demands from home and office. However, they do not have too many options of releasing stress.
In addition, the treatment offered to women as compared to men is less extensive. This is mainly because the symptoms in women are extremely vague and unusual. Furthermore, to avoid the higher complication rate, doctors usually avoid aggressive treatments like angioplasty or coronary stenting. Furthermore, women are not usually given more successful medications like ACE inhibitors, beta blockers and statins, along with treatments like cardiac rehabilitation.
