Matthew Hancock Takes £18,000 from Key Supporter of UK’s leading Climate Sceptic Lobby Group
Matthew Hancock, conservative energy and climate change minister has accepted £18,000 from a key supporter of the UK’s leading climate sceptic lobby group.
As per official records, five donations have been taken by Hancock over the years from City currency manager Neil Record. Neil Record has also provided money to the Global Warming Policy Foundation.
In November 2014, the latest donation was given to the MP. According to the Electoral Commission, the Conservative party received over £300,000 form Record. Hancock is the only individual MP who has been supported by Record.
The first two supporters of the organization to confirm their donations were Record and Lord Nigel Vinson. The confirmation was done after years of speculation about who was financing the outfit.
Record became board member of its new non-charitable campaigning arm when it was found that the Global Warming Policy Foundation have breached Charity Commission rules on impartiality.
Greenpeace has revealed the connection between Record and Hancock. A spokeswoman for the minister said that an appropriate process was followed to declare all donations publicly when it was asked whether Hancock had ever talked about energy policy with Record. According to Record, he has never talked about energy policy with Hancock.
“I have never discussed energy policy or climate change with Matthew. Our discussions tend to centre round our mutual interest in economics (we both started our careers as economists at the Bank of England)”, said Record.
Last week, green campaigners criticized Hancock for hiring a private jet to fly himself back to London from Aberdeen after signing a climate change deal with the Mexican president.
