Scientists could Establish Contact with Alien Life within 20 to 30 Years
Researchers at NASA have revealed that it is highly possible to make contact with alien life in near future. Ellen Stofan, chief scientist of NASA, said in a public event organized by the US space agency at its headquarters in Washington that chances are high that they get strong indications of life beyond earth within a decade. The evidence for it, according to Stofan, will be available to them within 20 to 30 years.
"We know where to look. We know how to look. In most cases we have the technology, and we're on a path to implementing it. And so I think we're definitely on the road", Stofan added.
Jeffery Newmark, acting director of heliophysics at NASA, said that the question is about 'when' rather than 'if'.
Stofan, however, made it clear that the alien life they are talking about wouldn't be similar to what you might have seen in some Hollywood flicks. It will be microorganisms, said Stofan.
NASA scientists said in an hour long presentation that a number of recent discoveries have supported the belief that humanity is closer to find alien life in solar system and beyond.
Jim Green, director of planetary science at NASA, said that it has already been suggested by a study related to the atmosphere above the Mar's polar ice caps that a mile deep ocean was once present in the planet's northern hemisphere. The water there existed for as long as 1.2 billion years, showed the study. Green said that many factors are required to play a role to help life exist on any celestial body.
Green said that they have now begun to understand that the solar system is a very wet place.
