PPP’s Minority Wing to investigate Jagdesh’s murder

Karachi, Apr 24 : Sindh MPA and a representative of the PPP’s Minority Wing, Pitanbar Sewani will take up investigation into the murder of a Hindu inside a leather factory on April 8 allegedly by his co-workers after he uttered some blasphemous remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

This follows after Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah passed the order to this effect. Sewani has been an elected member of the PPP Minority Wing since 1974.

The MPA was however, unable to pursue the matter because the factory officials concerned were not available for comment. “The police have arrested three suspects in the case, but the actual culprit who initiated the fight is being protected by the factory officials,” The News quoted Sewani as saying.

Meanwhile, the factory workers claim that the three suspects - Waqas, Usman and Hashim Makrani, arrested so far by the Korangi Police are not the real offenders, and that a man called Yasir is the real culprit.

They claim that Yasir initiated the fight, but he was being protected by the factory management and the police officials, due to his affiliation with a religious organization. The latter is also backing him.

Lyari Town Minority Councilor Ratan Kumar, who has been actively involved in the case and is also a resident of the Marwari Mohallah (Jagdesh’s neighbourhood), visited Sewani Wednesday evening and provided him with the details of the case. Sewani assured the community members of his support and said that he would start investigating the case on Wednesday.

Kumar informed Sewani that out of the 40 workers in the Marwari Mohallah only 15 have resumed their jobs when the factory van came to pick them up on April 19. “The remaining workers still feel insecure and threatened by the Muslims,” Kumar said. (ANI)
