Mississippi's Gov. may run for president
It has been reported that Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, being touted by some as a presidential prospect, says he's not ready to start thinking about the 2012 race.
The Republican governor has had a higher national profile recently, not just because of the BP oil spill looming off Mississippi's coast but also because of his fundraising for other Republican candidates across the country.
He's more concerned about the mid-term elections in November than the 2012 presidential election, Barbour told the Biloxi Sun Herald.
Barbour, a former head of the Republican National Committee who has been governor for more than six years and can't run again in 2011, said, "The most important thing right now is the 2010 elections. We can't wait until 2012 to take back our country."
That hasn't stopped political players from putting Barbour's name out there.
Casino industry executive Steve Wynn is among those who want Barbour to run. Wynn became a fan of the governor when starting up riverboat gambling facilities in the South, The New York Post reported on Monday. (With Inputs from Agencies)
