Eight Pak-American groups demand repeal of Constitutional amendments pushed by Musharraf

President Pervez MusharrafWashington, Mar 19 : The Pakistan-American National Alliance (PANA), a coalition of eight Pakistani-American organisations, has called for the restoration of sacked judges and the immediate repeal of unconstitutional amendments promulgated by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.

Welcoming the Bhurban Declaration engineered by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), PANA praised the legal approach adopted in the declaration.

They affirmed that a resolution in the Pakistan National Assembly would be “more than sufficient” for the reinstatement of the sacked judges.

As for the retraction of amendments to the Constitution, PANA termed them ex post facto legislation aimed at providing legal cover to illegal acts and to perpetuate the abuse of state power and resources.

According to the Daily Times, PANA called for the repeal of Article 270(AAA) of the Constitution, which sought to indemnify Musharraf’s recent acts of “high treason”.

The article places Musharraf above the law and the Constitution. (ANI)
