Air India Strike Enters Second Day; 76 Flights Cancelled
More than 76 Air India domestic as well as international flights were cancelled today as the strike by around 20,000 crew members and maintenance engineers of the national carrier entered the second day.
The flights that had been cancelled for today included 24 flights from Delhi, 37 from Mumbai, 6 from Kolkata, 7 from Chennai and 2 from Bangalore.
According to an official, "International flights from Delhi to Dubai, Muscat, Abu Dhabi, Bangkok among others and domestic flights from Delhi to Mumbai, Leh, Ahmedabad, Patna, Srinagar, Hyderabad and few more have been cancelled for today."
Airline staff went on a flash strike all over India on Tuesday protesting against the board's gag order and postponement in the payment of salaries.
The strike comes during the peak summer rush and the termination of flights is bound to put riders to great inconvenience.
"The management has mustered all available resources to minimize the impact on the scheduled operations," a spokesman for the airline said yesterday.
The management of Air India extended an unqualified regret to the passengers who have confronted or may be facing inconveniences owing to the dislocated operations. (With Inputs from Agencies)
