BJP Now Wants a Long Running Debate on Women's Quota Bill
The bill demanding a 33% reservation for women in the Parliament has been a hot topic of debate for quite sometime now, and while most were expecting the bill to get a clearance on International Women's Day, that did not happen, and now, the BJP is stressing that it would not vote on the legislation till an extensive debate has been undertaken.
"The Government should have a roadmap and strategy for passing such an important bill. We are not in favor of passing such a vital bill without a discussion. It (a discussion) is a requirement for a Constitutional Amendment as the basic structure of the Constitution will change", shared Deputy Leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha S. S. Ahluwalia.
The women's quota bill is an important initiative in today's times, and the ruling Government is utterly keen on getting a clearance on the same as soon as possible. The approval has been pending for 13 long years, and right when everyone thought that an approval might just be on its way, the Opposition reared its head once again to point out all the reasons why such an important legislation cannot just be awarded approval.
Although yesterday came as another disappointment for the pending bill, things certainly do seem to be moving in the right direction. More development with regards to the same is now being seen, much more than it was collectively seen over the past 13 years.
In order for the bill to be passed successfully, it has to be offered support by two-thirds of all those who are present and voting. The figure has to be at least 50% of the entire number of MPs present in the house, and the way things are moving, with a little talking and discussion, it seems that the bill will soon be passed.
