Dehradun: CBI files chargesheet in MBA student encounter case
Dehradun, Dec 23 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday filed a chargesheet in the MBA student Ranbir Singh fake encounter case.
The CBI accused 18 police personnel as responsible for the alleged fake encounter in the chargesheet, which was filed five months after the incident.
In the chargesheet filed before CBI Judge Narendra Dutt here, the agency framed the murder charges against seven police personnel under Indian Penal Code (IPC) 302.
The chargesheet named Araghar Chowki incharge G D Bhatt, for kidnapping and killing.
Apart from Bhatt, the CBI also framed murder charges against Sub-Inspectors Santosh Jaiswal, Nitin Chauhan, Rajesh Bist, Neeraj Yadav, Chandra Mohan and constable Ajit Kumar.
On July 3, Singh was killed in an encounter by the Uttarakhand police. Several civil organisations and Singh's family alleged it as a fake encounter.
But the police maintained that Singh and his friends who were riding a bike, failed to stop when they were asked to do so by Bhatt, a sub-inspector at Dalanwala area for a security check up on the eve of President Pratibha Patil's visit to Dehradun.
Two of Singh's friends Ram Kumar and Ashok Kumar, who were with him on the day of incident, were also arrested by police.
After investigation, the CBI had opined that Singh was killed after being subjected to torture. (ANI)
