Tokyo stocks down after Wall Street plungeTokyo  - Tokyo stocks were mixed Tuesday after renewed concerns over the strength of the global economic recovery led to an overnight plunge on US markets.

But losses were capped as investors bought back some shares battered by the from the previous day's trading, when the benchmark Nikkei index lost more than 3 per cent.

The Nikkei 225 Stock Average ended morning trading almost unchanged at 10,276.79, up 8.18 points, or 0.08 per cent.

However, the broader-based Topix index was down 2.22 points, or 0.23 per cent, at 947.37.

US investors pulled back overnight following a 5.8-per-cent fall on on China's Shanghai Composite index with the blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbling 2 per cent, to close at 9,135.34.

On currency markets at 9am (0000 GMT), the dollar traded at 94.40-45 yen, down from Monday's 5 pm quote of 94.65-68 yen.

The euro traded at 1.4100-05 dollars, down from late Monday's quote of 1.4123-26 dollars, and at 133.17-22 yen, down from 133.70-74 yen. (dpa)
