Plane skids off runway, shutting operations at Dhaka airport
Dhaka - Operations at Bangladesh's main airport were suspended for more than two hours Monday after a Jet Airways plane with 121 passengers on board skidded off the runway, officials said.
The New Delhi-bound flight with 121 passengers and 10 crew members abroad skidded off the runway at Zia International Airport at around 11 am (0400 GMT) while attempting take-off, said an official at the Air Traffic Control office in Dhaka.
He said the passengers and the crew members were evacuated from the plane unhurt immediately and the plane was towed back onto the runway within two hours.
Take-offs and landings of international and domestic flights resumed at 1:45 pm (0645 GMT), airport police officer Abu Saleh Md Shamsuddin said.
Transport officials formed a four-member committee to investigate the reason behind the mishap. (dps)
