India’s GSM subscriber base touches 325.7 million
The country’s booming telecom segment added 9.47 million new GSM subscribers in July, as compared to 8.89 million in the previous month. Total GSM subscriber base now stands at 325.7 million, excluding GSM subscriber base of RCOM, according to official data released on Tuesday.
Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the apex organization of GSM operators, said that Bharti Airtel, with total subscriber base of 105.18 million, has again emerged as the country’s largest telecom operator adding 2.8 million subscribers in the reporting period. The company retains a market share of 32.29 percent; followed by Vodafone Essar and BSNL, holding 24.1 percent and 14.9 percent market share respectively.
Almost all telecom operators reported an increase in subscriber base, with Vodafone and Idea Cellular adding 2.2 million and 1.42 million subscribers respectively. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), the state run telecom operator, added 1.62 million new customers; while MNTL added 35,413 new subscribers.
Net subscriber’s addition in C Circle and B circle stands at 1.82mn and 3.81mn respectively, with the tally totaling 122.13mn.
