Kaczynski: Conservatives to form new EP faction
Warsaw - Polish politician Jaroslaw Kaczynski said Monday a new faction in the European Parliament will stress family values and sovereignty of the EU's member states.
Kaczynski, head of the eurosceptic opposition party Law and Justice, said the faction will include eight parties and 55 members.
The faction will battle bureaucracy in the European Union and stress equality of all member states, Kaczynski told reporters in Warsaw.
It will be called European Conservatives and Reformers, and feature MPs from Britain, the Czech Republic, Holland, Hungary, Latvia, Belgium and Finland.
Law and Justice came in second with 27.4 per cent of votes in Poland's recent elections to the European Parliament.
The party has criticized the government's handling of the financial crisis, and warned against adopting the euro currency quickly in times or recession.
Law and Justice has been criticized for homophobia and making anti-German and anti-Russian comments. (dpa)
