Just celebrating second anniversary of Playstation 3, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia on Tuesday unveiled its new music service, VidZone, at Sony's Pause event in Sydney. The service coming exclusively to the PlayStation 3, Vidzone allows the Playstation 3 uses to stream thousands of music videos, free of charge.

Vidzone is Sony’s effort to prove that the Playstation3 is not just meant for gaming. The service will not only offer music videos, but also fetch live concert footages, behind the scenes, interviews, making of footages, etc. The service is supported by major record labels.  

Sounding highly exited at the unveiling of VidZone, the Managing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia and New Zealand, Michael Ephraim said, “Music has always been popular on PS3 and now VidZone is set to transform the way we view music videos.”

Vidzone an optional download service that places a new icon on the cross-media bar (XMB). The application for the new service Vidzone will be available through download from the Playstation Store. The application will be stored under the music icon on the PS3 XrossMediaBar.      

Sony Australia did showcase the Vidzone to media people, but remained secretive about the service. The company instructed the journos not to photograph or video the service during demonstration. Sony reported that it is still working on Vidzone, and claimed that about 85 percent work on the service has been completed. The company is striving for the best possible streaming quality before launch of the service. Sony Australia also revealed its plan to start selling high-definition movies and TV shows through PlayStation 3 as early as this year.
