Toyota SUV ‘Fortuner’ to be launched in India by September
Come September and Toyota's sports utility vehicle 'Fortuner' will hit the Indian markets! The announcement about the SUV's projected launch was made by the Indian unit of Toyota Motor Corp. on Wednesday.
The world's biggest carmaker, which marks its Indian presence through a joint venture with the Kirloskar Group - Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd -, said that the SUV with a three-litre futuristic common-rail diesel engine will cost nearly Rs 20 lakh.
The Toyota 'Fortuner' would come to India as a knocked-down unit, which would be put together at the Toyota-Kirloskar Bidadi plant, near Bangalore.
Also working on plans to launch a "strategic" small car in India by 2011, Toyota-Kirloskar - which also produces Innova multipurpose vehicle and Corolla sedan, along with selling the directly-imported Camry sedan and Land Cruiser Prado SUV - is presently putting up its second manufacturing unit in Bangalore, with an investment of Rs. 3,200 crore.
Talking about the proposed launch of 'Fortuner,' Sandeep Singh - the Toyota Kirloskar Deputy Managing Director - said in a statement: "The Fortuner is an important addition to our product line-up in India and we are currently in the process of finalizing details for the launch."
