Kanpur, Mar 23 : Devoid of electricity, villagers in Uttar Pradesh have now threatened to boycott the upcoming general elections.

Even after 60 years of India''s independence, villages like Sultanpur Tera Jor, Hathiyapur, Kundal, Gahana of Kanpur district don''t have basic amenities.

Miffed with politicians and their false hopes, enraged villagers have threatened to boycott the polls unless their villages are electrified.

"During every Lok Sabha elections, party candidates come to us and give us false assurances that if we vote for them then they would provide electricity to us. So this time, we have decided to protest," said Inderjeet, a villager.

They feel that it is no use casting their votes, as their plight would remain the same.

"There has been no development of any kind even after independence. We don''t want the candidates to come to us nor will we cast votes," said Suresh Singh, another villager.

India will hold a five-phased general elections between April 16 and May 13, in which 714 million people will cast their votes to elect a new Central Government. (ANI)
