Country oldest political party, Congress is all set to use AR Rahman's Oscar winning music score ‘Jai Ho’ in its poll campaign.
The party has got the rights of the award-winning song from musical company T-series. The party feels that the popularity of the song and the excitement created by the Oscar win to correspond its point to the voters.
Confirming the development, Manish Tiwari, Congress party spokesperson said, “If one party deserves the song to be played during campaigns it is the Congress party because of its image.”
The movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ won eight awards in different categories at the Oscars. These duo of great music maestro AR Rahman and lyricist Gulzar were also awarded the Oscar for the theme number ‘Jai Ho’.
The film depicts the story of Mumbai slums and showcases how one of the dwellers becomes a millionaire by participating in a reality quiz show.
Along with the advertising company Crayons, the party has also taken the services JWT to project a constructive illustration of growth and development under the UPA government.
Meanwhile, BJP, the main opposition party have termed it as an election publicity stunt. Commenting on this, Prakash Javdekar, a senior BJP leader said, “This song will ensure their defeat because it will remind every Indian that millions of people still have to stay in slums because of faulty Congress policies.”
The Election Commission has recently announced that the general elections in the country would be held between April 16 and May 13. Nearly 14 million people would cast their votes in these elections.
It can be recalled here that the Congress party had used popular song 'Chak de' from the SRK movie during the assembly polls in Gujarat in 2007.
