India a better team than us: Jayawardene
Karachi, Feb. 16 : Sri Lanka cricket captain Mahela Jayawerdene has described the Indian cricket team better than his because of its team spirit and cohesiveness.
"India won the ODI series because it was a better team. For the last couple of years, India has improved a lot and is playing well. They played really well against the host in recent ODI series in the Island," The Nation quoted Jayawardene, as saying.
Jayawardene, who arrived here for a two Test match series beginning February 21, said his teammates were looking forward to the series.
Talking to reporters here, he expressed hope that they will carry on from where they left-off in the one-day series. The islanders had crushed Pakistan 2-1 in the ODI series last month.
"Wining here would be an icing on the cake after the 2-1 ODIs triumph," he said.
When asked about the failure of Ajantha Mendis, Jayawardene said the Indian batsmen played him better than before.
He said Mendis was still new to the game, and needed to acquire new tactics.
"He has to learn much more and use new tactics," Jayawardene said.
He refused to speculate on who would lead the side after him, saying that for the selectors to decide. (ANI)
