Germany reportedly threatened in Islamist video

Germany reportedly threatened in Islamist video Berlin  - German police are checking yet another Islamist video found on the internet in which a terrorist threatens an attack on Germany, ARD television news reported Tuesday.

The video appeared to have been made about a week ago by the Islamic Jihad Union (IJU), a shadowy group based in Pakistan or Afghanistan that some see as effectively taking the place of al-Qaeda as a principal threat to the West.

It showed six masked men speaking in several languages, the last of which was German, ARD reported. He said, "This year, we've got a few surprise parcels for the occupying powers, since the allies of the occupying powers must always expect our attacks."

At Germany's BKA federal police headquarters in Wiesbaden, a spokesman confirmed the video was being studied, adding that it mentioned the name of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, but he gave no other details.

Two weeks ago, German security authorities found a similar video on the internet and reportedly identified the man speaking German on it as a Moroccan-born German national who had been educated at an Islamist secondary school in the Bonn area. dpa
