Military might alone can not tackle terrorism: Musharraf
Michigan, Jan. 15 : Former Pakistan President General. Pervez Musharraf has said that the `war on terrorism' can not be won by using military methods.
Musharraf, while addressing the annual dinner of World Affairs Council here said that Pakistan is itself a victim of terrorism, and it is taking all measures to counter the menace.
He claimed that Pakistan is itself is a victim of terrorism, and the Pak army is sincere in its effort to root out the terrorism.
Musharraf said that the poor economic, and social condition of people in the tribal areas in Pakistan is to be blamed for a rise in insurgency in the region.
"Pakistan Army is doing well to root out terrorism but victory could not be achieved only by using military might at Pak-Afghan bordering areas. Resolving economic and social problems of the people would eliminate terrorism," The News quoted Musharraf, as saying.
He claimed that the Pakistan has arrested key leaders of Al Qaeda, and at least seven hundred terrorists were killed by the security forces.
Musharraf urged the international community to co-operate with Pakistan in its struggle against terrorism
"Pakistan is doing all that it can against terrorism and it deserves co-operation instead of criticism," Musharraf said.
He also said that the US has not fulfilled the promises made with Pakistan. (ANI)
