No Irregularties In Distribution Of CTVs, Says Karunanidhi

M KarunanidhiTamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi stated that there were no irregularities in the distribution of colour TV sets to the BPL (below the poverty line) families by the state government.

The general public was fully conscious of Jayalalithaa’s ulterior motive whose intention was to bring disrepute to DMK government, he added.

It may be noted that J Jayalalithaa, AIADMK supremo, on Saturday recommends the DMK government to concentrate on fulfilling the basic needs of the people, rather than focusing on distributing free television sets.

A good government should provide employment to the unemployed and ensure that the people had the purchasing power. The entire scheme is a plan of the ruling DMK to make its partymen sell the TV sets in black market. Like the Rs. 2 per kilogram of rice scheme, this one too is going to be a failure and would lead to malpractices, she alleged.

AIADMK leader had termed the TV scheme "as an act deceiving people".

On her charges, the Chief Minister has replied, “Ms Jayalalithaa was leveling such allegations as she could not digest the growing support for the Government through implementation of the scheme.”

Nobody can take even a single pie as the Government is answerable for each and every Rupee spent. Moreover, the Government's expenses are being monitored by the Comptroller and Auditor General. If there is any mistake, it will find a mention in the CAG report which will be tabled in the Assembly', he added.

Karunanidhi further said, “If the Government had failed to implement the scheme as promised, one could say that the Government had contradicted its own statement. We are implementing the scheme as promised. It is Ms Jayalalithaa who is contradicting her own statement.”
