Chennai, Apr 27 : Pushing forward his demand for an immediate ceasefire in Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has gone on an indefinite fast here on Monday morning.

The 84-year-old Chief Minister sat on fast at the memorial of late C N Annadurai.

"Let me be one of Sri Lankan President Rajapakse''s victims. This is my sacrifice on behalf of all Tamils," Karunanidhi said.

Karunanidhi also said he did not want the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) men to go on a fast.

New Delhi, Apr 22 : Pushing forward his demand for an immediate ceasefire in Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has called for a 12-hour strike in Chennai on Thursday.

Late on Tuesday night, Karunanidhi issued a final appeal and asked all Tamils, irrespective of their political affiliations, to join the strike.

He justified his decision saying that besides asking the Centre to demand a permanent ceasefire, the strike was also for sympathising with the plight of Tamils in that country.

New Delhi/Chennai, Apr. 21: Minister of State for External Affairs, Anand Sharma, said Tuesday that the Indian Government is carefully monitoring the emerging situation in Sri Lanka, and was well aware and concerned about the plight of civilian Tamils in the island nation.

He, however, said that Prabhakaran is a proclaimed offender and the LTTE is a terrorist outfit and it should be treated on par with such other organisations,"

Chennai, Apr. 21 : Even as Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has said that he has been misquoted on the the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and V. Prabhakaran issue, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supremo J Jayalalithaa has targeted Congress President Sonia Gandhi, saying that she should have responded aggressively to it.

New Delhi, Apr 1 : The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected the contempt petition filed against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Union Transport Minister TR Baalu by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in connection with the October 1, 2007 state shut-down.

A bench of Justices BN Aggarwal and GS Singhvi dismissed the petition on the ground that the AIADMK failed to establish the allegation.
