Hyd Police Gears Up To Tackle Possible Terror Attacks
Police Commissioner B Prasada Rao said in Hyderabad that the City Police is taking effective steps to tackle any terror situation . It is undertaking various measures like imparting training to its forces similar to that of Greyhounds, an elite anti naxal force, besides other measures
He said that the dial 100 system will be upgraded by launching a unique SMS reception centre to receive public grievances. "A person in distress can send an SMS to the helpline - 9010100100 in any emergency and the same message will be forwarded to the security wing concerned, including traffic, for immediate response."
He further added that the service shall be launched shortly. The City Police is improving its capabilities against the Mumbai like terrorist attacks by imparting training to the personnel selected from City Armed Reserve (CAR).
Rao said that the Centre has identified Hyderabad as amongst the four places in the country to establish base for the elite counter terror force NSG. Commenting on the security situation, the Police Commissioner said that the law and order situation in the city was by and large peaceful. He said that 30 foreign nationals, including five Bangladeshis, were arrested, as they were staying in Hyderabad illegally.
About 2,000 CCTVs will be installed at different public places in the city next year to improve the surveillance.
However there was an increase in crime during the year and 18,266 cases were registered under different sections of IPC as compared to 17,393 cases last year. A total of 775 persons were arrested in cases including murders, counterfeit currency, property offences, dacoity and robbery.
The top cop said that a week ago, terror suspect Talha, working with an IT company in Hyderabad was arrested in Nagpur by Anti Terrorist Squad of Maharashtra.
Regarding the probe against a SIMI activist and member of Darsgah Jihad-O-Shahadath (DJS) Viqaruddin, who is absconding after firing at police here, Rao said that the investigations were on.
