New Zealand central bank slashes interest rate

Wellington  - New Zealand's Reserve Bank announced Thursday a record 1.5 per cent cut in its benchmark interest rate to 5 per cent - the lowest level in five years.

The rate has been cut steadily since July after being static at 8.25 per cent, one of the highest in the developed world, for a year. (dpa)
