A new site has been released to allow commuters tin London to know bus timings using their mobile devices. The service has been made possible due to eh freeing up of data by Transport For London.

The new Live Bus Departures Countdown service will help passengers waiting at the bus stops in the city, where there are no road-side countdown tickers. The ser4vce is till in beta testing mode but has already made its way to sites including Twitter.

The site also has a SMS based system for those with simpler phones. In order to get local bus times, the users will simply have to type in a street, postcode or route number and pick a stop from the map that appears. Each bus stop has been assigned a five digit PIN number that that can be saved allowing quick access to timing information.

Transport for London ha said that the service will be officially launched in October, much before the mega sporting event in the city, the London Olympics 2012.
