Gaming major, Activision Blizzard has said that its "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" had the biggest launch of any game, continuing the successful trail of the popular franchise.

Modern Warfare 3 has sold about 6.5 million copies making roughly $400 million in sales in the first day in just Europe and UK, according to data released by Eurogamer. The success of the game has been very important for the company as it has shifted its focus to releases lesser number of games.

According to estimates from analysts, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 accounted for about $4 billion in annual revenue for the company. Activision said in a statement that the title had sold 6.5 million units breaking earlier records.

The earlier version, Call of Duty: Black Ops had generated $1 billion in less than two months of its launch last year. Activision Blizzard is the largest video game company in the US. The franchise has become has become a cultural phenomenon with a wide range fan following form gamers waiting each near version from around the world.

Shares of Activision rose 1.5 per cent to $13.17 on Friday on the Nasdaq.
