Mobile phone usage growing in children
Extensive use of technology is becoming harmful to human culture and mind. It is well reflected in the usage of mobile phone by children under the age of 10 years.
In a study of more than 17,000 school kids aged seven to 16, it was discovered that there is a strong relation between reading capability and contact with the books at home.
They found that more than 3/4th of children who read the estimated level for their age had their own books. Only 58% who read below their estimated point had their own books.
Some 93% of youngsters who owned books understood that learning was important to be victorious in life as compared to 80 % of those who didn't have their own books.
The research found that 85.5 % of students carry their own cell phones, compared with 72.6 % who carry their own textbooks.
From children between the ages 7 to 11 about 79.1 % students have their own cell phone against 72.7 % who have more contact with books.
The research was conducted as component of the National Literacy Trust's “Tell Me a Story campaign”.
