MMRDA plans boost to science, tech through park

MMRDA Science and technology couldn’t get a bigger space than this. The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) has called for landowners who can provide them 5,000 acres of land for developing an ‘Innovation Park’ anywhere beyond suburban Mumbai, Thane and Raigad.

On Tuesday, MMRDA along with other government officials also discussed the finer aspects of this Innovation Park – touted to be the biggest in Asia.

Subsequently, within three months they will submit a report defining the role of all stakeholders like the state government, investors, scientists and developers of the project.

“Identifying key domains is a crucial step. This will guide us in establishing the Innovation Park with appropriate concepts and perspective,” said Metropolitan Commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad. The park will facilitate nearly 25,000 scientists across the world to carry out research.

The Innovation Park will mainly focus on sectors like pharma, nano- and bio-technology, functional foods, micro electronics to name a few.

Pune University will help MMRDA in establishing this park having nearly 2,000 research centres for industries and government.

The MMRDA expects this park to create nearly 8 lakh jobs in the science science and allied services.
