Migrant labourer shot dead in ManipurImphal, Dec 16 : A migrant labourer was shot dead by unidentified gunmen here on Tuesday.

Twenty-eight-year-old Deepak Kumar Shahu was shot dead at Pangei Haotan, four kilometres away from Heingang Police Station in Imphal.

Shahu, a confectionary hawker used to sell biscuits and other items in remote villages.

"Around 10.30 a. m , the victim was returning from the Pangei side on a bicycle after selling biscuits and other edible items. On reaching Pangei Haotal, two unidentified armed persons on a two-wheeler shot at him. On hearing the information, we rushed to the spot and rushed him to the JN Hospital. However, on reaching the hospital, he succumbed to the bullet injury. He had sustained six bullets on his his body," said Rajen Singh, sub-inspector, Heingang Police Station.

At least 24 migrants have been killed in Manipur since February this year.

Migrant labourers said they would be forced to retaliate if such killings continued.

"If we are treated like this we will also retaliate. We want justice from the government. There are many Manipuri students studying in Patna but we look after them as our own," said Deepak Kumar Shahu, relative of the victim. (ANI)
