Peggy Leirheimer works part time as a teacher and as an artist. She is also one of the people who come under the so called 'Medicaid gap'.

The Medicaid gap is a term used to describe the gap between state Medicaid eligibility and Marketplace subsidy eligibility in states that didn't expand Medicaid.

Peggy said she is presently under low income but was never a low income person. When she was looking for a suitable health insurance she found that she didn't fit in a category.

She said she now worries about what would have happened if she developed a serious illness or met with an accident.

"It's very frustrating and I feel kind of helpless, because it's a matter of what do I do. I can't afford it, luckily the government didn't fine me for not having health care", said Leirheimer.

Missouri State Representative Charlie Davis said that ever since the Affordable care Act has passed the topic of Medicaid expansion become a hot topic across the state.

Davis said the Medicaid expansion in the state, it is currently a non issue. The Senate has already said they are not interested in hearing any kind of talk about the expansion without major reforms.

Dottie Elbert works for Missouri Healthcare For All, which is a group that is working around the Show-Me-State to try and get the expansion passed.

Dottie Elbert said that they have been rallying and doing several educational reforms. Elbert said they have done candlelight vigils, and a lot of volunteers even go door-to-door, make phone calls to educate people.

They have been talking and feeling like they have not been heard for three years now, said Elbert.
